The idle air control valve is a component that interacts between an automobile's computer and the throttle body. After cleaning the IAC and throttle body, replace the valve to its original position on the engine. Make sure that the pintle fits again into the throttle's airspace.
Also the EJ18 throttle body is really no different than most any Subaru one besides the built in IAC, I'd start by cleaning the throttle body to help with those cold starts. -EJ18 injectors are pretty small (190cc IIRC) and the EJ22's are in the 200's-EJ18 injectors are side feed, I'm not sure if the EJ22's are too but that's easy to google.

Feb 01, 2012 · EJ22 stock in BD6 Liberty throwing code 21 Coolant Temperature Sender (CTS) for the ECU and 24 "Air Control Valve" which I assume is the IAC. I have tested the CTS out of the vehicle, it reads faulty.

When I start my Legacy, It idles fine.. 1,300 rmp's. then drops down to 700 rpm's when it reaches operating temp. Which is normal. The check engine light blinks a few times when I first accelerate...
Apr 27, 2009 · I still need to clean up the welds of the upper mount, trim the angle iron "connector," polish the spacers, and then paint the whole shootin' match. The belt now lines up perfectly, though I'll need to use a 3-rib belt to match the tensioner; the alternator and outer crank pulley are 4-rib.
